How to Use Dynamic Calorie Goals

Overview

Dynamic Calorie Goals is a feature that adjusts your daily calorie target based on your body composition, workout activity, and general lifestyle. It helps tailor your calorie goals to better fit your needs whether you’re trying to lose weight, maintain, or improve your overall wellness.

What to Know

  • Your calorie goal adjusts dynamically using your activity level, body scan data, and logged workouts.
  • You can select your Activity Factor to reflect your general activity level.
  • If you complete a body scan, your calorie goal can be updated using your lean mass and fat mass.
  • Feature is available to select Noomers in the English version of Noom Weight or Noom Med, using app version 12.46.0 or higher on iOS or Android.

What to Do

To change your Activity Factor:

Your Activity Factor determines how much energy your body uses beyond your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

  1. Tap your profile picture (top left corner of the Noom app)
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Weight and Calorie Settings (iOS) or Calorie Settings (Android)
  4. Tap Activity Level and select from the following:
    • Dynamic (1.2): Adjusts automatically based on logged activity
    • Somewhat Active (1.5): For moderate daily activity
    • Very Active (1.7): For highly active individuals

Changes apply immediately and update your calorie goals right away.

How workouts and steps affect your calorie goal:

  • When you log a workout, half of the calories burned (above a BMR-based threshold) are added to your daily minimum and maximum calorie goals
  • Steps also count—each step = 0.05 calories added to your budget

To enable or disable Body Scan data for calorie goals:

  1. Tap your profile picture (top left)
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Weight and Calorie Settings (iOS) or Calorie Settings (Android)
  4. Tap the Sync with Body Scan toggle to turn it on or off

This option is automatically turned on after your first successful body scan.

Need to Know More?

Q: What happens if my BMR is too low?
A: If your calculated BMR falls below 1,200 (female or non-binary) or 1,500 (male), it will automatically be adjusted to those minimums.

Q: Can I still use Dynamic Calorie Goals without a body scan?
A: Yes. While a body scan improves accuracy, you can still use the feature with just your Activity Factor and logged workouts.

Q: Will the calorie goal change every day?
A: It may change based on your activity level and workouts—the goal is to align your calorie budget with your lifestyle in real time.
