Overview
Noom’s photo, voice, and text meal logging lets you capture what you ate without manually searching for each ingredient. Whether you snap a photo or describe your meal out loud, Noom helps identify and log the ingredients for you.
What to Know
- Available to Noomers in the U.S. on the latest iOS or Android version of the Noom app
- You can log meals using a photo, voice, or typed description
- After your meal is processed, you’ll review and can adjust ingredients as needed
- A feedback option is available after logging to report issues or suggest improvements
What to Do
To log a meal with a photo (Scan Meal):
- Go to the meal logging section in the app.
- Select the meal you want to log (e.g., breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack).
Tip: The Scan Meal option will only appear after you choose a meal.
- On the meal logging page, tap the Scan Meal tab.
- Take or upload a photo of your meal. Noom’s AI will identify ingredients and portion sizes.
- Review your meal details — edit, add, or swap ingredients as needed.
- Save your log.
Photo Logging Tips:
- Make sure the full meal, including drinks, is in the frame
- Use a plate or flat surface to help the app identify all items
- For enclosed foods (like sandwiches), take a side photo if possible
- You can always add missing ingredients during review
To log a meal with voice or text (Describe Meal):
- Tap the Describe Meal tab on the meal logging page
Tip: You’ll see the meal logging page after you choose which meal you’re logging.
- Type your meal or tap the mic icon to record your voice
- When you’re done, tap Done in the top right to process
- Review, edit, or adjust ingredients on the Meal Review page
⚠️ Note: You’ll be asked to grant microphone and speech recognition permissions (iOS only)
Voice/Text Logging Tips:
- List ingredients and portions separately for best accuracy
- Be specific (e.g. “2 cups of spinach” instead of “some spinach”)
- Include brand names when logging packaged foods
- Tap the info icon (i) on the Describe Meal tab for more guidance

Q: What if an ingredient is incorrect?
A: If an ingredient is incorrect or misidentified, tap the item swap icon (two arrows in a circle) next to it to see suggested alternates for that food.
Q: Why don’t I see this feature?
A: Make sure your app is updated to the latest version and that you’re located in the U.S.
