How to Log Meals Using Photo, Voice, or Text

Overview

Noom’s photo, voice, and text meal logging lets you capture what you ate without manually searching for each ingredient. Whether you snap a photo or describe your meal out loud, Noom helps identify and log the ingredients for you.

What to Know

  • Available to Noomers in the U.S. on the latest iOS or Android version of the Noom app
  • You can log meals using a photo, voice, or typed description
  • After your meal is processed, you’ll review and can adjust ingredients as needed
  • A feedback option is available after logging to report issues or suggest improvements

What to Do

To log a meal with a photo (Scan Meal):

  1. Go to the meal logging section in the app.
  2. Select the meal you want to log (e.g., breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack).

Tip: The Scan Meal option will only appear after you choose a meal.

  1. On the meal logging page, tap the Scan Meal tab.
  2. Take or upload a photo of your meal. Noom’s AI will identify ingredients and portion sizes.
  3. Review your meal details — edit, add, or swap ingredients as needed.
  4. Save your log.

Photo Logging Tips:

  • Make sure the full meal, including drinks, is in the frame
  • Use a plate or flat surface to help the app identify all items
  • For enclosed foods (like sandwiches), take a side photo if possible
  • You can always add missing ingredients during review

To log a meal with voice or text (Describe Meal):

  1. Tap the Describe Meal tab on the meal logging page

Tip: You’ll see the meal logging page after you choose which meal you’re logging.

  1. Type your meal or tap the mic icon to record your voice
  2. When you’re done, tap Done in the top right to process
  3. Review, edit, or adjust ingredients on the Meal Review page

⚠️ Note: You’ll be asked to grant microphone and speech recognition permissions (iOS only)

Voice/Text Logging Tips:

  • List ingredients and portions separately for best accuracy
  • Be specific (e.g. “2 cups of spinach” instead of “some spinach”)
  • Include brand names when logging packaged foods
  • Tap the info icon (i) on the Describe Meal tab for more guidance
